Former Arsenal coach Wenger reviewed the past in the book "My Red and White Life" and talked about the famous "40 million +1 GBP" quotation Suarez incident.
In 2013, Arsenal wanted to buy Suarez from Liverpool. The player agent revealed that any offer higher than £40 million could trigger the departure clause in the player’s contract. For this reason, the gunman put forward a price of 40 million +1 pounds, which once became the focus of public opinion.
Wenger recalled in the book: "In 2014 (actually for the 13-14 season), we wanted to get Suarez. We reached an agreement with the players and the agent, but the agent claimed that there was a clause that was higher than that. With an offer of 40 million pounds, Liverpool must let people go."
"But according to internal discussions in Liverpool, I found that this clause does not exist, so in order to verify the truth, we quoted 40 million +1 pounds. I admit, this seems a bit funny."
"But Liverpool do not want to sell Suarez, they have the ability to keep him, and Barcelona already has an offer."
